In June 2019, PMI had announced a significant change to the prestigious, Project Management Professional (PMP) Exam. To which, stakeholders began sharing feedback, and determined that they need more time to prepare for the changes.
In its recent announcement, the Project Management Institute (PMI) stated a decision to delay the PMP Exam changes. The last day for the candidates to take the current version of the examination, is 30 June 2020. From 1 July onwards, the examination will be based in reference to the new exam content outline.
What are the changes in the new PMP Exam content outline?
Currently, the PMP examination is based majorly on 5 domains mentioned in the PMBOK guide. Starting July 1, 2020, the examination will be based on 3 domains.

- Planning.
- Executing.
- Monitoring and Controlling.
- Closing.
New ECO 2019
- People.
- Process.
- Business Environment.
The PMI published its new exam content outline on June 30, 2019 and is justified as “radical” from all the previous exam content outlines. Within each of the above-mentioned domains in the New ECO, the PMI has stated that half of the examination will represent predictive project management approaches and the other half on hybrid or agile approaches.
With numerous new topics and methods, it’s no surprise that clearing the examination will be harder. The examination will now contain twice the amount of content in the exam course and it will significantly require a longer time to prepare with the newly defined PMP exam content outline.
