  • Lead and directed projects – delivered them within the assigned schedule, time and budget.
  • Performed the assigned duties under general supervision – and are responsible for all aspects of the project.
  • Significantly well-defined project requirements & deliverables – you need to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and experience required to apply a methodology for projects.

You should consider applying for a project management credential when you have answered all the points. “Yes.” These experiences should be provided to project managers who have lead and directed projects for a minimum of 3-5 years. Candidates who comply with the certification requirements asked by the PMI, and crack the daunting PMP Exam will obtain the prestigious project management credential.

What is Project Management?

Project Management definitions may be confusing in the PMBOK Guide. Concentrate on what project management means. The 5 process groups in the PMBOK Guide are required for each project. These include Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring & Controlling, and Closing. You must demonstrate competence in all five process groups to meet with the certification prerequisites. Nevertheless, you do not have to prove that each of the five Process Groups has covered each project.

PMP requirements overview

The project management credential is offered by the globally renowned Project Management Institute (PMI). The requirement majorly depends on your work experience and educational background. You must qualify through one of the below-mentioned scenarios –

35 Contact Hours of Formal certification training

To qualify through the PMP requirements, you are required to complete 35 hours of mandatory project management training.

What qualifies as a Contact Hour?

The total amount of time you spend on standardized project management training refers to the contact hours. One hour of standardized classroom training is equivalent to one contact hour. Contact hours are earned through participation in project management-relevant training programs. You may earn contact hours through a physical lecture program or an online training workshop. The many 35 hours from the same course or workshop do not have to be accumulated – the time can be invested in several formal education formats.

Unlike the obligation to complete project management experience hours’ practice within eight years before earning the credential, any project management training you have undertaken complies with the PMI contact hours’ requirement. No expiration date is available for any training you have obtained on project management.

What is Formal Education?

A variety of training programs are available for formal education. You may obtain it through -classroom training, online instructor-led training, or online self-training.

The self-study does not count against 35 hours of professional training. It is important to note that. Each course in project management which covers 10 areas of knowledge, including integration, scope, time, cost, quality, resources, communication, risk, procurement, and stakeholder management, will count towards your formal 35 contact hours.

Leading & Directing Projects

You have project management expertise as either a project manager or a member of the project management team if you have led and directed a project. Leading and Directing refers to the performance of the role of Project Manager as part of the project or the entire project. It means the tasks listed in the PMP Exam Content Outline have been carried out by you. The key is that you have experience in management, not just as a project team member.

Why are there such strict requirements?

Project Management is a respected profession involving the management of project goals. Project managers must communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders involved and be cautious to effectively manage these communications. They also provide a range of work and need to be prepared to handle often contradictory requirements. Projects can fail due to poorly managed expectations, lack of communications or lack of scope for delivery. To understand theoretical knowledge and methods, project managers need these practical skills. The PMBOK outlines the 10 knowledge fields from 5 process groups and are tested on the PMP Exam. You need to effectively cover them in your PMP prep.

Is the PMP Exam difficult to crack?

The examination is designed to objectively evaluate your project management work experience, education, and professional knowledge. The certification exam is one of the most difficult ones to crack – but it is certainly not an impossible task.

What is the validity of the PMP?

In addition to fulfilling these prerequisites before obtaining the certification, you must maintain the PMP accreditation once you become a certification holder. The eligibility period for certification is 3 years, starting once the credential is issued. In each of the three years following the initial PMP -credential holders must receive 60 professional development units (PDUs).
