PMP live-training requirements from 1 December 2026

Education Edge · October 8, 2026 · 1 min read

PMI has announced a change to which providers can deliver qualifying live PMP training from 1 December 2026. If your course is scheduled around that date, check both the provider and the delivery format before enrolling.

The change concerns training eligibility. It does not remove the work-experience or other application requirements for the PMP.

Which providers will qualify?

PMI's announcement identifies Authorized Training Partners, China Registered Education Providers, and eligible accredited academic providers for live training under the new rule. Its announcement treats self-paced learning separately and allows training completed before the effective date under the earlier rules.

Read the current PMI announcement for the exact scope and any subsequent updates. If your course crosses the effective date, ask PMI how the rule applies to your circumstances.

Ask four questions before purchasing

1. Is this live instruction or self-paced learning?

2. Who issues the course-completion certificate?

3. Does this provider and course qualify for my planned completion date?

4. What record will show my completed training hours?

Keep the answers with your enrollment confirmation. A description such as “PMP preparation” does not by itself explain a course's eligibility or what documentation you will receive.

What this means for Education Edge learners

Education Edge identifies its PMI Authorized Training Partner number as 4456. Our training-partner page explains what the designation means and how to check the provider's status.

Before enrolling, confirm the particular course, cohort, completion requirements, and certificate arrangements with our team. ATP status supports provider verification; PMI still decides individual application eligibility.

Training hours and exam readiness are separate

A qualifying course can address the education requirement while also helping you prepare. Completing the required hours does not establish that you are ready for the exam. Allow time to review the syllabus, practise questions, and work on your weaker topics.
