Pick by the experience you can prove, not by the name you like best. ECBA is for people starting out in business analysis, CCBA is for analysts with a few years of work behind them, and CBAP is for senior analysts.
The short answer
New to business analysis, or moving into it from another role? Start with ECBA. Have about two years of full-time business analysis work? CCBA. Have about four years or more and lead the analysis on your projects? Go straight to CBAP.
How the three levels differ
All three are awarded by IIBA, the International Institute of Business Analysis, and built on its BABOK Guide. What changes is how much proven work IIBA asks for. ECBA needs no work experience. CCBA needs 3,750 hours of business analysis work in the last 7 years, 21 professional development hours and two references. CBAP needs 7,500 hours in the last 10 years, 35 professional development hours and two references. Our IIBA certifications page has the full comparison.

Choose ECBA if
You are new to the field, a graduate, or a project coordinator, tester or developer moving towards analysis. It proves you know the language and the techniques before you have the hours. ECBA training.
Choose CCBA if
You already work as an analyst and can document a few years of it. CCBA shows an employer you can apply the techniques on real work, not just describe them. CCBA training.
Choose CBAP if
You have been doing business analysis for years and lead it on your projects. CBAP is the senior credential, the one most BA job postings name. For CCBA and CBAP your hours must also be spread across the BABOK knowledge areas, so map your experience before you apply. CBAP training.
