The Project Management Institute (PMI) has announced a change in the PMP exams coming later this year. There is usually a change in the PMP exam every 3-5 years, where the PMI conducts research to understand how the jobs as project managers have changed. The previous round of the same research was conducted in the year 2015, which resulted in the current PMP exam content outline.
PMI has announced that it will release the new PMP exam content online, somewhere in June 2019. The last day to take the current version of the exam is 15th December and the PMI will start with its new format of PMP exam from the very next day, 16th December. The PMP certification requires an extensive PMP exam prep which tests your skills, knowledge and abilities that reflect achievement.
What are the changes in the new PMP exam?
The PMI is currently working to define the new outline of the PMP exam which will result in the new exam outline. The new outline is yet to be published in June 2019 and based on the publications; the PMP exam will be updated. Below are some of the expected changes in the new exam outline.
- The new outline will mostly include additional responsibilities and techniques for project managers.
- We can also expect to see an update in the question banks for the PMP exam.
- The change might also remove certain tools, techniques, and responsibilities for project managers.
The Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) being the core study material for the PMP exam is untouched in the change announced by the PMI. You can use the current “sixth edition” of the guide, whether you are taking the exam before or after December 15.
It is advisable to schedule your PMP exam a month before the change, to avoid the rush expected for December when everyone wants to take the exam before the change. If you meet the eligibility requirements for the PMP certification, then it is strongly recommended to get certified before the changes. You need to have a solid PMP exam prep to obtain the credential. For now, you can continue to prepare for the exam on the based on the current PMP exam outline.
