To obtain a PMP certification, you need to follow PMI's specified certification procedure

Here are the 6 steps to become PMP certified:

1. Meet the eligibility criteria: typically a bachelor's degree, three years of project management experience, and 35 hours of project management education (or a high school diploma with five years of experience)

2. Apply for the exam: Submit your application through the PMI website, explaining your project management experience and education

3. Schedule the exam: When your application is accepted, you can schedule an exam time at a testing location close to you

4. Exam prep: To prepare for the exam, PMI suggests that you study the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) Guide and other study materials

5. Take the exam: The PMP exam consists of 180 multiple-choice questions and must be completed within 230 minutes

6. Maintain your certification: To maintain your PMP certification, you must obtain 60 professional development units (PDUs) every three years
