CBAP Application – the best practices!!
CBAP certification is a complex certification and so is the CBAP Application submission process. To make it easier for everyone out there interested in CBAP certification, we have put together a CBAP Application document. We hope that this document will simplify the entire process around CBAP Application and help you fill up the application with ease.

Step 1: Determine eligibility criteria.
To earn the CBAP designation, candidates must:
a. Complete a minimum of 7,500 hours of Business Analysis Work Experience in the last 10 years.
b. Within this experience, a minimum of 900 hours completed in 4 of the 6 BABOK® Guide Knowledge Areas, for a total of at least 3,600 of the required 7,500 total.
c. Complete a minimum of 35 hours of Professional Development in the last 4 years.
d. Provide two references.
e. Agree to Code of Conduct.
f. Agree to Terms and Conditions.
g. Pass the exam.

Step 2: Before we start filling the CBAP application, IIBA requires us to pay the application fee of USD125 which is non-refundable.
You can start filling the application by using the following link: https://my.iiba.org/joinapi__login?id=a281N000001EnSRQA0&order=1

Step 3: You will receive an email for activation that you provided while creating your IIBA account. Click on the hyperlink (click here) provided in the email.

Step 4: Click on Certification Status as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 5: Click on “Apply” for Certified Business Analysis Professional™ (CBAP®).

Step 6: At this time, you will be prompted to pay the application fee USD125.00

Step 7: You will receive a confirmation email for successful payment.
Now, the real work towards CBAP certification begins. We will now enter CDU’s for professional as well as educational units. Let’s review them in steps.

Step 8: Click “Certification” tab and select My PD Hours to update “Work History” & “Professional Development”.

Step 9: For work history we must enter at least 8500 hours instead of required 7500 hours. The reason to include additional 1000+ hours is because some BA work packages may be out of IIBA’s scope.
We will be entering 3 projects in our CBAP application. The project description is the most critical part along with hours. The duration of the projects will be listed as below.
Project 1: April 2016 – Feb 2018
You will be filling the following fields:
1. Type – Choose “Work History” from the drop down
2. Organization Name – You will enter your organization name for the period
3. Work Description – Cut and paste what is listed here for all your 3 projects. We have provided description for all the 3 projects below. You can use them for all the three projects
“The purpose of the project was to provide similar transactional capabilities on the mobile channel as were available on the online channel. As a Sr. Business Analyst, I worked on all the phases of the predictive approach-based project. I was responsible for end to end management of the requirements while providing guidance on all the various knowledge areas including Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring, Elicitation and Collaboration, Requirement Life Cycle Management, Strategy Analysis, Requirement Analysis and Design Definition along with Solution Evaluation. I used various techniques to perform the business Analysis tasks.
In the Requirement phase of the project, I worked with business owners and product owners in defining the scope by gathering the business requirements.
I decomposed the requirements using modelling techniques.
During the development phase, I worked closely with developers and provided clarifications on business requirements and furthermore conducted some joint application design sessions to build consensus and common understanding.
At the successful launch of the application and after a couple of months of production support and coaching to our sales force, I conducted the lesson learning sessions”.

4. Now you need to provide the number of hours worked in various Knowledge Areas. Please note that we must not enter more than 150 hours for a month. Considering, the period above for 22 months we must enter 22*150=3300 hours. Please enter exactly as shown below:
a. Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring – 550 hours
b. Elicitation and Collaboration – 500 hours
c. Requirement Life Cycle Management – 500 hours
d. Strategy Analysis – 450 hours
e. Requirement Analysis and Design Definition – 800 hours
f. Solution Evaluation – 500 hours

Project 2: May 2014 – Feb 2016
You will be filling the following fields:
1. Type – Choose “Work History” from the drop down
2. Organization Name – You will enter your organization name for the period
3. Work Description – Cut and paste what is listed here for all your 3 projects. We have provided description for all the 3 projects below. You can use them for all the three projects
“The purpose of the project was to work on retiring a legacy application with a new commercial off the shelf package. As a Sr. Business Analyst, I worked on all the phases of the adaptive approach-based project. I was responsible for end to end management of the requirements while providing guidance on all the various knowledge areas including Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring, Elicitation and Collaboration, Requirement Life Cycle Management, Strategy Analysis, Requirement Analysis and Design Definition along with Solution Evaluation. I used various techniques to perform the business Analysis tasks.
Being an agile based project, I Developed the Product Backlog working with the Product Owner. Decomposed the epics into user stories. Once the product backlog was in order, I facilitated sprint planning sessions and used MOSCOW analysis to develop the sprint logs. During the sprint planning sessions, I also worked with Product, IT and QA team to develop Testing criteria called the “Acceptance and Evaluation Criteria”.
To ensure expectations were met, captured what was done yesterday, what are we planning on doing today and finally if there were any impediments or hurdles the team face. I also Tracked Progress and created Daily Burndown Charts. At the end of 2 week of sprints facilitated testing and Review along with retrospection”.

e. Requirement Analysis and Design Definition – 800 hours
f. Solution Evaluation – 550 hours

Project 3: Feb 2012 – Mar 2014
You will be filling the following fields:
1. Type – Choose “Work History” from the drop down
2. Organization Name – You will enter your organization name for the period
3. Work Description – Cut and paste what is listed here for all your 3 projects. We have provided description for all the 3 projects below. You can use them for all the three projects
“The purpose of the project was to work on digitization project to align with organizational strategy towards paperless office. As a Sr. Business Analyst, I worked on all the phases of the predictive approach-based project. I was responsible for end to end management of the requirements while providing guidance on all the various knowledge areas including Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring, Elicitation and Collaboration, Requirement Life Cycle Management, Strategy Analysis, Requirement Analysis and Design Definition along with Solution Evaluation. I used various techniques to perform the business Analysis tasks. Worked on all the artifacts starting with BRD. SRS, UAT plan as well as traceability matrix. Conducting collaborative sessions as well as research to validate the solution. Finally help stakeholders with acceptance and adoption.

4. Now you need to provide the number of hours worked in various Knowledge Areas. Please note that we must not enter more than 150 hours for a month. Please enter exactly as shown below:
a. Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring – 450 hours
b. Elicitation and Collaboration – 550 hours
c. Requirement Life Cycle Management – 500 hours
d. Strategy Analysis – 550 hours
e. Requirement Analysis and Design Definition – 600 hours
f. Solution Evaluation – 450 hours

Step 10: For professional development section enter the below mentioned details

Step 11: Enter at least 2 references that can be your reporting manager, product owner, project manager etc.
Step 12: Submit your application by accepting Code of Conduct, Terms and Conditions and accepting IIBA processes and procedures.
Step 13: Pay exam fee
Step 14: Schedule and pass the exam
